Suburb profile

Lidcombe is a lively inner established suburb with dining, shopping and leisure options right on the doorstep. Young professionals and new households shape much of the local mix, with plenty of young families in the mix. This is a strongly multicultural suburb: overseas-born and multilingual households make up much of the community.

There is a dense cluster of schools and early-learning options nearby. Outdoor life is easy here, with generous parks and room for kids, dogs and weekend strolls. Most routine trips are on foot, while buses and trains cover longer journeys across the metro area.

Homes cost more here than in most comparable suburbs. Reported crime has been rising recently.

Desirability rates good overall, led by stronger growth momentum compared with similar metro suburbs.

Socio-economic

IRSAD decile (2021)
8/10
IRSD decile (2021)
3/10

ABS Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA), 2021 release — the latest available, derived from the 2021 Census. Deciles rank suburbs nationally from 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest).

What do IRSAD and IRSD measure?

IRSAD — Index of Relative Socio-economic Advantage and Disadvantage. Combines indicators of advantage (e.g. high income, skilled occupations) and disadvantage. Higher decile = more advantaged relative to other Australian areas.

IRSD — Index of Relative Socio-economic Disadvantage. Focuses on disadvantage only (e.g. low income, unemployment, limited education). Higher decile = less disadvantage nationally.

A new SEIFA edition typically follows each census; the ABS has not announced a release date beyond 2021.
