Suburb profile

Somerton is a welcoming smaller community in Hume Council, with a settled community character. The community is self-contained in the best sense. Local life comes first, with the region opening up beyond. An older demographic makes it especially popular with retirees, with a strong working population.

Parks and open space are a real strength relative to many comparable suburbs, easy for walks, sport and weekend downtime. A car helps for most daily errands, though buses still link the suburb further afield. Property prices run toward the upper end of the local market.

Renewal is happening in measured doses, with new development complementing what is already there.

Methodology

Figures are allocated from ABS Estimated Resident Population at Statistical Area Level 2 (SA2), using 2021 Census share within overlapping SA2 regions. Where Census data is unavailable, area overlap is used instead.

The dashed chart line is a simple growth-trend estimate to June 2030 (~0), extrapolated at +0.0% average annual growth since 2011. It is illustrative only — not an official ABS forecast.
