Suburb profile

Tullamarine is a practical mid-sized suburb in Hume Council, well placed for families who want metro access without the inner-city squeeze. Families and commuters make up much of the community, with plenty of young families in the mix. The suburb has a clear multicultural mix alongside longer-term local households.

Sport and recreation are easy to access, with local venues supporting active weekends and after-work routines. Green space punches above what many metro suburbs offer, with parks and playgrounds woven through the suburb. Reasonably walkable — many errands reachable on foot or by bus, with buses linking the suburb to surrounding areas.

Property prices run toward the upper end of the local market. Construction and infill projects are noticeably reshaping parts of the area.

Against similar metro suburbs, growth momentum stand out and the overall desirability rating is good, with schools and education, plus community and employment less decisive. Limited access to some essential local services also trimmed the result.

3/10

ABS Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA), 2021 release — the latest available, derived from the 2021 Census. Deciles rank suburbs nationally from 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest).

What do IRSAD and IRSD measure?

IRSAD — Index of Relative Socio-economic Advantage and Disadvantage. Combines indicators of advantage (e.g. high income, skilled occupations) and disadvantage. Higher decile = more advantaged relative to other Australian areas.

IRSD — Index of Relative Socio-economic Disadvantage. Focuses on disadvantage only (e.g. low income, unemployment, limited education). Higher decile = less disadvantage nationally.

A new SEIFA edition typically follows each census; the ABS has not announced a release date beyond 2021.
