Suburb profile

Tweed Heads is a regional established suburb in Tweed Council, oriented around local life rather than the metro orbit of Sydney. Day-to-day life leans on nearby towns and local hubs rather than the metro area. Retirees and empty-nesters are well represented here, with schools and childcare nearby.

A practical retail strip keeps errands local: groceries and daily services without a long trip. Parks and open space are a real strength relative to many regional towns, easy for walks, sport and weekend downtime. Most routine trips are on foot, while buses cover longer journeys across the metro area.

Homes cost more here than in most comparable suburbs. Construction and infill projects are noticeably reshaping parts of the area.

Growth momentum push the suburb to a good desirability read, even as safety look more ordinary among similar regional towns.

Socio-economic

IRSAD decile (2021)
4/10
IRSD decile (2021)
4/10

ABS Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA), 2021 release — the latest available, derived from the 2021 Census. Deciles rank suburbs nationally from 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest).

What do IRSAD and IRSD measure?

IRSAD — Index of Relative Socio-economic Advantage and Disadvantage. Combines indicators of advantage (e.g. high income, skilled occupations) and disadvantage. Higher decile = more advantaged relative to other Australian areas.

IRSD — Index of Relative Socio-economic Disadvantage. Focuses on disadvantage only (e.g. low income, unemployment, limited education). Higher decile = less disadvantage nationally.

A new SEIFA edition typically follows each census; the ABS has not announced a release date beyond 2021.
