Suburb profile

Arundel is a practical established suburb in Gold Coast Council, well placed for families who want metro access without the inner-city squeeze. Residents are mostly families and working professionals, with family life visible on every street. Overseas-born and multilingual households are a noticeable part of the local population.

Dining is thinner on the ground than in busier metro pockets, so many residents head to neighbouring suburbs for a night out. Parks and open space are a real strength relative to many metro suburbs, easy for walks, sport and weekend downtime. Getting around is straightforward, with buses tying neighbouring communities together.

Homes cost more here than in most comparable suburbs. The streetscape feels settled and established, with older homes giving the area a familiar, lived-in look.

The desirability picture is around average, weighed down by softer safety relative to similar metro suburbs. Limited access to some essential local services also trimmed the result.

Socio-economic

IRSAD decile (2021)
6/10
IRSD decile (2021)
5/10

ABS Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA), 2021 release — the latest available, derived from the 2021 Census. Deciles rank suburbs nationally from 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest).

What do IRSAD and IRSD measure?

IRSAD — Index of Relative Socio-economic Advantage and Disadvantage. Combines indicators of advantage (e.g. high income, skilled occupations) and disadvantage. Higher decile = more advantaged relative to other Australian areas.

IRSD — Index of Relative Socio-economic Disadvantage. Focuses on disadvantage only (e.g. low income, unemployment, limited education). Higher decile = less disadvantage nationally.

A new SEIFA edition typically follows each census; the ABS has not announced a release date beyond 2021.
